I was the one who woke up late this morning as I had set my alarm for 7…pm! Since we napped last night it I had switched to pm and I never switched it back! I hate that feeling of being rushed! I was also worried about the weight of my bag. They are SO anal about your checked bag (which hey..I get) but also your carry-on! Last time I tricked the woman and she didn’t see my backpack (which would have been over) but I was trying to pack, weigh, unpack and reweigh to get my bags right. My checked bag was WAY over and I realized it was probably because of my shower tote. I am embarrassed to say I think I’ve made a rookie mistake and tried to save money by buying shampoo etc. at home in bigger bottles instead of bringing travel size and buying more when necessary. We stopped at the Coles grocery store on the way out to buy mini bottles of water that I could then dump and put my shampoo etc inside those.
The ride to the airport was beautiful and SO different from what we experienced the other night (near death!!!!) Part of the ride was along the ocean and even though it still wasn’t a great day it was very pretty.
Mom dropped me off so I could unpack my bag, reduce my liquids and get rid of the evidence. We are each allowed 23kg for our checked bags for a total of 46kg that can be used however. Mom’s bag was 20kg and mine 24kg so we did alright! And get this..we didn’t even to weight our carryon!!! Ugh so annoying. Well I guess not really because I probably would have had to unpack and repack again, but I couldn’t believe after all that work this morning (on top of waking up late) I didn’t have to weigh it!
Our flight was delayed about 30 minutes which really didn’t prove to be a problem. But, The flight itself was..awful!! Mom and I were both VERY tired so we figured we would just sleep the whole time but neither of us could get comfortable! We did choose the “cheaper” airline, but STILL! Ugh I couldn’t wait to get off!
Our bags came quickly and we took a cab to our hotel which is in a GREAT location! We have a one bedroom (that Erin and I will sleep in) and mom is being such a good travel buddy and is sleeping on the couch!
We went out and started walking around to “The Rocks” and “Circular Quay” both of which are near the bridge and the Opera House. It is definitely VERY cool to be someplace you only see in pictures!
We then walked half way across the bridge (I am doing the bridge climb in the morning) but we were STARVING (we hadn’t eaten a real meal all day) so stopped for some pizza and pasta before calling it a night!
Hugs and kisses from Sydney!
